About Sea-view Cottage
'Sea-view Cottage' Studio Gallery is an artists retreat on the East Coast close to the North Yorkshire Moors with sea views. An 1870's house built high upon a hillside overlooking the town of Saltburn itself. Lingdale is a small rural village just a few miles from Saltburn and we are surrounded by farmland and wildlife meadows. We offer seascape painting boat trips aboard 'Little Lucy 3', Seascape or landscape painting field trips, studio based painting workshops, creative writing and poetry workshops with Ian Parks and a sculpture garden/performance venue. We are also a good base for walkers/ramblers, or cyclists training for the North Yorkshire Cycling races.
We are marketing Sea-view Cottage as something a little different; As an artists retreat, open all year round. A quiet, peaceful place for contemplation, education, discussion and creativity. A place for creative writers, visual artists of all abilities, seriously engaged students of art, folk musicians, walkers and nature lovers with two professional artists as hosts. 'Sea-view' is an 18+ adult only, 'child and dog free' peaceful environment which is quite rare now, we feel.

Seascape Painting Holidays with Adam Berry MA Fine Art
Our flexible seascape painting workshops include all materials, studio facilities and tuition (if tuition is req'd). They are flexible from one-to one sessions up to small groups of up to six visiting artists and from one day taster sessions up to a full two week full experience holiday, or any combination to suit the customer and are flexible across all levels of experience from total beginner through to MA level.
They are designed to be flexible in terms of either on-site 'en plein air' using French box easels, or studio based using full-sized Radial easels - or a mixture of the two - depending upon weather conditions, tide times, or the requirements of the individuals or small groups involved. Selected locations and typical landscape contexts are all, local, within driving distance and transport to the days location is also included within the cost. Locations sometimes include quieter, wilder places where we can work without interruption and we avoid weekend peak tourism times for the most part.
Adam runs a holistic, research based praxis that is also underpinned by theory - 'neo-romantic', 'trad-contemporary- his main studio practice is however focused upon the 'the craft of picture making'; method, material, process, form and he shares with visitors both traditional and more modern, perhaps 'unconventional' tips and techniques, many of which are of his own invention and unlikely to be found in any other instruction manuals or video's.
There is an interest in site-specific selected found objects and retrievals which are made safe, industrially cleaned and fabricated into hybrid form 'sculpture-paintings', tri-partite or cruciform structures, where-within both the picture 'frame', and the central imagery are seen as 'partners towards an overall sensation'. Towards these explorations, a recent development has seen Adam working in a very small way with Clean Earth UK, who salvage marine waste 'ghost net recovery' lost by fishing boats during storms off the coast of South Gare to Saltburn who venture out scuba diving up to a mile offshore and 100ft deep - Adam uses salvaged rope, chain and creel pots incorporated into the sculpture-paintings.
If deciding to book for painting sessions please do bring sensible outdoor clothing and footwear! Before deciding to book we suggest the best way to get to know about our guide, tutor and experienced day skipper is to visit our sister website at:
